If you want to relax and let someone else do the sailing for you, captained charters require zero licenses on your end!
To charter a yacht to sail yourself in Greece however, you must hold a sailing license recognized by the local port authorities. The following certifications are accepted by local port authorities.
For EU citizens:
- Any national sailing license for an EU country is acceptable
For United States citizens:
- American Sailing Association's International Proficiency Certificate (IPC)
For the rest of the world:
- International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
Yacht charters in Greece all start at 17:00 on a Saturday with check-out happening at 09:00 the following Saturday.Â

Most yacht companies will require you to arrive to the port by 18:00 the night before you check-out to allow time for proper inspections.
While Seven Moons will not charge you additional fees for any reason, the following external expenses must be taken into account when planning your trip. We will happily provide you estimates for these line items beforehand, but numbers may vary:
- Port fees
- Fuel consumption
- Water consumption
- Transportation to/from the marina
- Refundable yacht security deposit
We highly recommend you acquire travel insurance in case you unfortunately must cancel your trip to cover non-refundable deposits.
Absolutely! Yacht charters are excellent family getaways. When speaking to your itinerary specialist, make sure to include that you will have children on board as there are multiple safety measures yachts can have installed to ensure your trip is enjoyable for everyone on board, from infants to grandparents!
